Co-Star Character Design

For [one of] this week's HW assignments, I had to design a sidekick or co-star for my previous character corresponding to a time period of my choice. (I chose my Old West time period variation -- I love westerns). The result was Wranglin' Raccoon!

Wranglin' Raccoon is the lead villain in the Old West alternate universe of Drama Llama. He's the mastermind and head of a notorious band of outlaws of which Drama Llama is a member. Unfortunately for Wranglin' Raccoon, he's miles ahead in the brains department compared to the rest of his merry band of wrong-doers and thus he ends up spending more time trying to extricate himself from their botched robbery attempts than actually planning nefarious deeds.

Some of the preliminary research/sketches:

Then I did color variations! This was a really useful exercise -- I'm trying to improve my color design, and doing this exercise made me think outside of the box a bit from what I would normally consider.

Character Design through time -- Heffner the Drama Llama

A fun little character design exercise involving my drama llama character, Heffner. I tried to keep a pretty consistent color palette (mostly red with some blue and yellow) and tried to keep in mind his position as a "background" character. In order:

1. Original 2. Circus Clown circa 1910 3. Cave Llama 4. Wild West Outlaw Member 5. 1960's Hippie (circa Woodstock) 6. Ancient Greek Philosopher (he does like to talk a lot) 7. 70's Punk Rocker 8. Star Trek Red Shirt 9. Ancient Egyptian Pyramid Builder 10. 50's Housewife
